Just a general, dumb, run-of-the-mill type question for the NSW orientated folk; what do the 80 class loco's do these days? Who owns some / them / all of them now? I just happened to note that they are ALCO's, and wondered what sort of work they do now, and whether they have been shunned off with other 4 stroke types and relegated to shunt / local type work, or whether they still see a fairly broad range of jobs?

They're spread across Silverton (80s class), and Pacific National. Of late an 80 class has been one of the assigned shunters at Acacia Ridge.

Hiya Rolls Royce (give me a Leyland anyday),
Dude they do a lot of shunting duties (in various states) and also trip working around Sydney. Regular jobs would be the Botany and Mungo (Rozelle line) runs as well as others. They still occasionally turn up on normal frieghts.
The Scumbag and Simpleton ones see mucho use on their runs up north and west. Seems they are also getting used on the rail work trains down south.
Yep good ol ALCos, our last ones her in NSW.
Cheers

8004, 8007 and 8042 are operational at enfield. 8007 is the wheat loco running enf to mungo's and when milling to gonaroo, but not presently. 8042 is the yard shunter. 8004 is now allocated to Westons much to our disgust! Cant pull the skin of a rice pudding! We use it only when they pinch our 81 class.
8013 was at morandoo but think it went to Acacia ridge. Another 80 still shunter there.
3 off 80 classes are to bank engines at Werris Creek for Ardglen, cant remember the number but will get tomorrow when there. 1 is still in Indian Red livery with a blue Pac Nat sticker on it.

I suspect 8040 is the othe Morandoo culprit, she was up there playing handsies with 8013 a few months ago.
Hmmmm the unlucky numbered 80 class at a yard notorious for 80 class damage.

It is ironic that the 80's are considered the duds of all the NSW alco fleet. Which when you look at the design you can easily see.

It could be argued that EE's never worked properly to begin with.

It could also be argued again, that proper maintenace from the outset can lead to a happy life!
