Well this is 5802 which is at ZZR...

So I'm assuming 5803 would be a sister loco.

Do we know the whereabouts of 5803?  Has PNQ bought it for Bowen, as the rumours state?

First I've heard of it! But then again, I'm usually the last to hear anything!

Nah, this one looks more like a DH.  I'm guessing that the "58" is just MIM's numbering system.

Okay - it will be this one then, complete with road number:

Some fluffy dice, and a thumping subwoofa, and that will be a sick train mate, fully sick. So sick, it needs to go to hospital mate.
"How long will the next train be? Six cars would be my guess."

The one in Mick's reply doesnt look half bad. I'd like one of those red-back spider in the resin throttle knobs though! Beaded seat cover, and Winnie' Blue's on the dash, a squirt of Auto-Cologne, and you'd be set!

Sadly however, the other poor hideous thing at ZZR - my goodness - only its own mother could love it....surely..... poor bloody thing!

Unusual looking bogies on it. Was it built around the same time as the QR DH's?

MIM bought it from Walkers in 1972. Caterpillar 500 donk.  An early edition of Leon Oberg's book has it as "303", and a later one has it as "5803".  I'm guessing that confirms that "58" was the class assigned to MIM locos...

I had a look over this loco whilst at ZZ a few weeks ago.....what a dog! It would have to be one of the most unattractive units I have seen. I believe that they had to remove the air conditioner from the roof of the cab because it wouldn't fit through Clarence tunnel. Now there is a gaping hole in the roof that is open to the elements!
Can't work out why they ever sold V13, the 0-6-0 shunter from Tasmania....it was a great little unit.
