Hi all
I have heard reports that 3265's new boiler had passed its hydrostatic test yesterday and has been tested to 1650 kpa. Apparently the steam test is to be done next week with fitting of the boiler into the frame in about 3 weeks.
Oh What a Gasser! Rex Mossop.

Good news, any background info on 3265? Where is she based etc.

I believe 3265 is owned by the Power House Museum, who also own and operated 3830, IIRC it's being restored at Eveliegh.
I had no idea it needed a new boiler, but wow, what an achievement!

3265 is owned and maintained by PHM, but not operated, as PHM are not an accredited operator. 3830, upon restoration, was operated by 3801 Limited, but in the last few years has been under the wing of the NSWRTM after some personal differences in the respective managements. These same disagreements have resurfacced recently, and PHM are now beginning to cooperate and collaborate more with 3801 Limited once again. However PHM still limit 3830's outings to 6 times per year, though this year so far it has only made 3.
The new boiler was funded by the State Government and is quite something. The '01 boys turned 3265 the other week using 4918, it looks rather smashing. Can't wait to see her in full flight - Maroon livery and named 'Hunter' I'm told!

As an aside, the now condemned boiler from 3265 was actually last used in 3246, which hauled the last steam-hauled passenger train in Australia. Upon withdrawal the boiler was immediately removed with a view to one day returning 65 to steam, as 65's boiler was totally shagged. When inspected and stripped 46's boiler was found to be just as bad, and the bullet was bitten, and the rest is history!
