Good gunzel spots
#1
Hi all,
Are there good gunzelling spots in Melbourne, as I'll be down there for 1 day in Jan. Must have trams near it as well.

You should PM Chicken Legs, I'm sure she'd enjoy a day out gunzelling.

Casually removing the top from one of James Boag's Finest....
Adjusting the noise-cancelling headphones on the Stereo for comfort...
And settling down to wait for return of fire....
This should be entertaining....

Why would I want to go gunzelling Mick, I see that kind of stuff every day at work.

Besides, it's not like I'm that much of a gunzel, it's not like I would drive 4,000km to go ride a push bike along a few old rail trails or anything.

"How long will the next train be? Six cars would be my guess."

For trains:
The Gunzel Platform: http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=-37.808...iwloc=near
Southern Cross Station, on the Bourke Street Pedestrian Bridge, or LaTrobe Street Bridge.

For trams:
Basically any major street in the city. Corner of Bourke and Swanston, or Collins and Swanston will see a lot of action. Take a ride on the City Circle tram for a view of Docklands and the CBD. A trip on the light rail out to St.Kilda, then returning by Rt.16 along St.Kilda Road will see a lot of action. You could also stop off to look at Southbank Depot on this trip.

For Freight trains: Not much to see in the City, but a wander out along Footscray Road, or Dynon Road will allow some to be seen. Have a look at Google Maps for what is about, and if it is worth it.

Preston Workshops can be got to on the train. Take an Epping train to Thornbury station (this also gets you through the city loop) and it's a short walk to the workshops from there. You can catch Rt.112 back to the city from the workshops.

That should be enough to fill in a day.

Thanks for that. For anyone who's interested, there's a Wikipedia page on Melbourne public transport: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_in_Melbourne

Thanks all for the help. If WoS has a links page, I think the wikipedia one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_tran..._Melbourne) should be there.

Is there a list of cable tram remnants? I'd like to go see some of them while there. Maps would also be great.
