Greta train support centre operational in 2012

Pacific National says construction on its newly approved train support centre at Greta in the Lower Hunter Valley will start mid-year.

The $110-million facility will include five rail tracks, a maintenance workshop and fuel storage and re-fuelling facilities.

Up to 550 full-time jobs will be created during the construction phase, and at least 38 once the centre is operational.

Coal Director, David Irwin says it is hoped the facility will be up and running in the first half of next year.

"We're hoping to commence construction in early June of this year, with a construction time frame of close to 12 months before completion," he said.

"We expect to be able to take trains into the facility potentially for some provisioning and maintenance activities from March or April from next year, but the majority of the benefit will come online during May or June of 2012."
