The Dawnie Express, named in honour of Olympic swimming gold medallist, Dawn Fraser passed through Oakey this morning en route to Charleville. The trip is raising money for Save the Bilby Fund of which Dawn is a patriot. She missed catching the steam train out of Brisbane yesterday so will be going out on tonights Westlander to catch it up at Roma for the final leg to Charleville.
It was the first steam train to cross over the new Oakey rail bridge since it was completed last October.
The loco was supposed to be 1079 but was 1089 and had diesel loco 1732 in tow.
